Great lamp for the money
When you pay $40 for a lamp you have to expect to get a $40 lamp. I have read the reviews on this lamp then went to Boscov's to see it for myself, then purchased it. It was easy to assemble and works as a lamp should; three-way switch, stands up straight, arm swings freely.
I have two young children at home that act like young children throwing pillows and hoarse playing all day long. So far it has not fallen over. I did not expect a solid brass lamp and with that in mind I am totally satisfied with my purchase.

BEWARE!
I purchased a pair of these lamps for Christmas - there was not a review posted at the time of my purchase. Needless to say, the review above is very accurate! The lamps are advertised as polished brass, they are brass plated (cheaply at that!) over thin metal.
Becase the packaging was destroyed trying to get them out of the boxes, it was more of a hastle to buy new shipping boxes, repackage and ship back ... so we kept them. Along with the cheap construction and look of these lamps, they did not stand straight, not a suprise! In trying to "sand" the base weight flat for them to stand straight, we found the base was not even metal, but filled with concrete!
If I lived near to a BOSCOV, I would return them in person ... but not worth the shipping hastle and expense for me.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT PURCHASE this item!! You get LESS than what you pay for!!

Cheap
I bought this lamp to replace an older living room floor lamp. This is like a do-it-yourself lamp and you get what you pay for. It's poor quality, poor construction, cheaply made. Needless to say, it was returned the next day.
