Hoover Windtunnel Air Steerable Upright Vacuums

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 230 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Quality Vacuum Cleaner (which could use improvement) I bought this product "new" from Hoover - the warehouse, I think - very recently. I was a little surprised at the price after I bought it; about $150 (after tax with free shipping) - just about the cheapest you can get this vacuum for anywhere in new condition (in box, unopened...). (But I guess that is what is available if you order online from a warehouse.) * "I think the star rating should be out of 10 or 12 (instead of out of 5). And HERE IS MY RATING: 7 OUT OF 10 STARS ('A VERY GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT')" (by saying 4 out of 5 I'm basically saying %90, and that wouldn't be accurate - but I can't rightly rate it 3/5 - that wouldn't be accurate either). This is a very good quality product. (I don't remember it coming with a bag for the accessories, but maybe I didn't look deep enough into the box of accessories and/or other items). This vacuum works very well! I had no sooner vacuumed for maybe 10 or 15 seconds (give or take) on the carpet when about 1/4 cup of dust had collected in the canister. You must have Brush Roll turned on to get it to work properly in floor mode, though (this uses a powerful and fast spinning shaft, and tends to cause the vacuum to overheat a little - even though there are vents, and it typically takes up a lot of power (at least that would be my guess) - good thing it is a corded vac!) The hose attachment is not exactly the most secure of them all (there is no latch where you attach the hose - you just slide the hose pipe end into the input for "hose mode" while lifting the cover. This attachment does not seem to direct all of the power of flow to the hose and whatever accessories are attached to it. I have had some trouble with the attachments/accessories/tools (whatever you want to call them) and the hose/hose length in general. The hose will come out a good length (and will stretch at first), but will scrunch up, and even though I have all the length (or almost all) which I might need, it will be difficult to maneuver the hose and the accessories attached to it. The vacuum is a good deal quieter and smaller than it seemed on one of the Hoover review and comparisons videos - I like this (I think it's cool - and/or good). I really enjoy the "Steerable Technology" or steerable feature; that is, the general maneuverability and versatility of this vacuum. In addition, I really liked how the handle came out of the vacuum - how it was removable - to form another built - in tool (a 'handle - vac', if you will). It is also lightweight, which is another enjoyable feature. I like the fact that it has a HEPA filter. (Seriously, what was Hoover thinking when they took away the HEPA for the cordless vac!?!? And they called it an upgrade?!?) Anyway, I'm glad this one has a HEPA filter (I'm glad it has a filter in itself, but HEPA is one of the best kinds of filters). That way, instead of all of the dust just getting stuck in the canister, and being released into the air again when you empty it into the trash, it gets stuck in the filter (or at least that is what is presumed). However, I emptied it into the trash, and I had to turn away and cough because of (in part) how many small dust particles were released into the air - so I don't know how well the HEPA filter/feature works (obviously not well enough on it's own). Hoover should maybe consider adding some sort of water pool/water releasing/humidifier feature (or something like that) to keep the dust down, and sticking together in the canister. Either that, or possibly adding a disposable bag feature for inside of the canister, or something of the kind - a no mess, no in house pollution way of cleaning up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, I really enjoy this vacuum. With the Brush Roll feature turned on whenever using "floor mode" (though a bit irritating which might cause problems at times), I found it to be, with this feature turned on while using it, and very useful and productive floor vac. I had trouble with other attachments and features apart from the floor vac (as described above), but I'm sure with proper use and knowledge of how to use the product, and in most cases, one or more of the other tools (whether built - in or not), will be sufficient (or more so) to get the job done. I don't know why these surveys are so concrete (in part) - this can irritate me (and it doesn't make a lot of sense. The survey should consist only/solely of the star rating, a comments box - this box which I am writing in, and a contact/contact information section.) I think the star rating should be out of 10 or 12 (instead of out of 5). And HERE IS MY RATING: 7 OUT OF 10 STARS (A VERY GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT) (by saying 4 out of 5 I'm basically saying %90, and that wouldn't be accurate - but I can't rightly rate it 3/5 - that wouldn't be accurate either). P.S. Don't know that I buy that '...help you decide which vacuum is right for you...' junk. IF YOU BELIEVE IN THAT SORT OF NONSENSICAL LOGIC (IN OTHER WORDS, THINKING WHICH IS VOID OF TRUE LOGIC), MY ADVICE IS THIS: BUY ONE GOOD VACUUM THAT WORKS AND STICK WITH IT - THEN MAYBE YOU'LL SEE WHAT JUNK THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL YOU, AND HOW MUCH OF A SALES PITCH THIS SORT OF TALK IS. (Of course, if you need a more powerful vacuum, and if you have a bigger house, it may not be completely nonsensical. If you want one that is bigger and more powerful, you might want to get the Hoover Pro, but if you want something really versatile, you might want to get the Hoover Air Cordless. In general, though, I would say this is mostly just a persuasive sales pitch to get you to buy more, when you really only need one working, good quality vacuum (if you live alone, and in most cases, even if you don't.)) I would also suggest, in general, that you just buy this one, and if it doesn't work out, you've got a five - year manufacturer's warranty (if you buy new, in most cases, from Hoover Co./Factory and/or store/warehouse). Also remember, the manufacturers took away a good thing when they made the Hoover Air Cordless (the HEPA filter, and the Cord - might be no difference on the latter, but there is more than a good chance (e.g. loss of power {different than loss of suction this case}). Trust me - buying the steerable as compared with other Hoover Air™ products is most likely, and in most (if not all) cases, worth using and carrying around the extra extension cords and vacuum up and down the stairs (if you need it) - which, by the way, is actually a very easy job. Rated 1 out of 5 by Model needs to be reworked I've had this vacuum for a year. 3 months after purchase the on\off button stopped working. The brush that rolls underneath works when it wants to. When I need to empty the canister or clean the filter I can rarely get the pieces separated. At times during vacuuming it will completely shut off I will empty the can wait a few min and try to vacuum again and it won't work. Easy to handle. August 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lightweight and easy to handle I have had this for about a month now and it is easy to manuver and lightweight. The suction is great. The one thing that I am not liking is that if you vacuum up hair, it wraps around the brush bar. When I was finished vacuuming my home, I had to actually take a pair of scissors and cut the hair off the bar because it was wound on it tight. Maybe there is a way to avoid having to do this??? If so, I sure would like to know. Other than that, it seems to be a pretty good vacuum. August 12, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by attachment hose I bought this yesterday at Target and I can't return it fast enough. Who wants to have to constantly stop cleaning and turn the machine off to attach a hose to another port to do 10 seconds or less of dusting or baseboard cleaning, to then have to once again turn it off and re-attach the hose to continue vacuuming?? The only way this would work is if you vacuum the entire room, then attach the hose to the attachment port and go around the entire room again doing the dusting/baseboards and such. Who came up with that design idea??? Obviously someone who doesn't ever use a vacuum. August 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Light and easy to Manovour Love my new vacuum from Hoover. Lightening speed shipping and easy to assemble. I like that the extender is attached and stored inside the upright base. This is easy to use and picks up things well. August 4, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor quality It was a let down... Its very light in a bad sense that is poor quality. Suction is way less then my old windtunnel and no height adjustment. August 3, 2015
