KitchenAid Pasta Press Attachment with 6 Plates

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worked great. I bought this last week to make macaroni for homemade mac and cheese. I whipped a batch of dough in the mixer, which is so much easier than using a hand mixer with dough hooks. Then a quick attachment of the pasta press. I rolled little balls of dough and fed them in. Soon nice little strands of macaroni were feeding out of the bottom. I found the letting them feed out just a little longer than you would get from a package minimized sticking together. I find home made noodles are so much tastier than store bought. And you know what went in to them. This is an adult play doh factory, and caution should be taken that too much fun cooking is not had. Rated 5 out of 5 by Delighted with this product! I posted a few days ago about using my extruder. I finally figured out what I was doing and it works beautifully. After doing some research I realized I probably used a recipe that was too sticky for macaroni. I found several recipes online, all different. Long story short, practice with different recipes, the dryer the dough the better, but not crumbly type of dough. I had used a recipe with olive oil added and that's what made it so sticky. Even after kneading several times to add more flour it was still too sticky. I refrigerated for several hours and it extruded perfectly. My macaroni stuck together, but I think with some additional practice I will get this right. Love the spaghetti the extruder makes, so practice makes perfect! July 25, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Very pleased I purchased the extruder because other cutters did not produce spaghetti. I've been pleased with the results for two reasons: it really does make spaghetti and it's safe enough that my 3-year-old granddaughter can make it with me. That makes it extra-special!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Pasta and FUN!!! I bought this item about 6 months ago and it is SO easy to make great pasta. It is also fun to use (like having a Playdough machine for your mixer!!). The pasta is delicious and very quick to cook. I also freeze some of the noodles for later use!! April 30, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by This product is fun - it works well and does what is says it will do -but takes a little practice If there were a “very good rating’, I would give this product such a rating. I hesitated ordering this because of some of the reviews, but I decided to go for it since I could return if it didn’t work. I am a “novice” in terms of making pasta. But, I enjoy making it and find it something I’d like to do more of. I purchased the Gourmet Pasta Press – and I started using it this weekend. I found that my own regular recipe did a good job making the large macaroni and the Rigatoni. Where I ran into problems was trying to make the spaghetti. My recipe seemed to “soft” for the spaghetti and they stuck together coming out of the machine. The good thing about this press is that you can just “re-use” the pasta. So, if your pasta doesn’t work out the first time – you just add more flour if need be and you can re-insert it. What I had to do was to add Semolina flour to my APF Dough in order for it to be “dry” enough coming out so that it didn’t stick together when I placed it on my drying surface. That took a lot of “trial and error” - I will be looking to see if there are any YOUTUBES out there on this subject. I have not yet tried things like Spinach Pasta recipes – or others, but I am going to want to eventually do that, this may or may not take trial and error on the how dry the dough has to be. I really liked the way that this product worked. I found that it’s a bit tricky trying to “pry” apart the Pasta Plates for cleaning. By the way – read the directions before you try to clean them... I found that the Spaghetti Pasta Plate did not separate and I couldn’t get it cleaned the way I could with Large Macaroni & Rigatoni plate. For me, it is something I am still learning to use – but my family is a big fan of pasta and I will have a lot of fun learning how to use it. It seems that the spaghetti is just a bit more-fussy than the others (so far) and that trying to disassemble all the plates is a bit tricky for cleaning too. But if you make the spaghetti dough using semolina and APF, it is drier dough, and then the spaghetti doesn’t stick together so much, although it’s more brittle as a result. I choose to freeze my pasta, just to be on the safe side. I am not sure if it’s just me – but the pasta comes out really nice. It adds a lot of options to using homemade pasta to your menu planning, it’s fun to use – just have to work with it a bit to get all the pasta plates to separate for cleaning after use. I use a wooden skewer to clean out the pasta that gets caught up in the machine after use. It helps to let it dry out a bit before cleaning. If the plates come apart then it’s quite simple to clean them out. I don’t want to try too hard to pry them apart for fear of damaging the plastic parts. So, I do recommend it – I don’t give it an “excellent” rating – but it is a “Very Good” rating – I think that there could be better instructions on how to take the plates apart for cleaning. This is a product that would be fun to work with kids because it’s like a PlayDough Machine – you put the small balls of pasta in and tasty pasta comes out – any child would love to do this with a parent or grandparent.
