What is Friends Helping Friends?

Friends Helping Friends day is an opportunity for every local non-profit (501c and 170c1) organization (holding a Federal Tax ID#) to raise funds for their group by selling shopping passes to the event

When and where will this event be held?

Friends Helping Friends day will take place in all 46 Boscov’s store locations on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

How do organizations raise funds?

Passes to Friends Helping Friends cost customers $5 each.  The entire $5 goes directly to the non-profit organization that sells the pass.  For example, if your organization sells 1,000 shopping passes, it will receive $5,000 in funds directly from the sale.  Each participating non-profit group may request as many passes as it wants.  Simply disperse the shopping passes among your members or volunteers who sell them to friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.

Do organizations have to pay for the passes in advance?

Boscov’s provides the shopping passes to non-profit organizations at no cost to the organization.  Unsold passes do not need to be returned to Boscov’s.

How can we spread the word about Friends Helping Friends?

- We encourage you to spread the word about Friends Helping Friends – and how your supporters can purchase shopping passes from your organization – by:

- Displaying the free posters Boscov’s will provide to you at local businesses, schools, churches, etc.

- Sharing on social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

- Volunteering to sell passes in advance at your local Boscov’s

Does Boscov’s keep a percentage of the shopping pass sales?

100 percent of the sale of shopping passes goes entirely to the selling non-profit organization.

Are there any specific rules regarding selling the shopping passes?

- Ensuring that the passes are sold preserves the validity of Friends Helping Friends.  You are not required to sell passes, but you are prohibited from giving them away, in fairness to both your organization and all other participating non-profit groups.  Any organization giving shopping passes away rather than selling passes will not be eligible for bonus awards.

- When a shopping pass is sold, the entire pass must be given to the purchaser, DO NOT DETATCH THE STUB.  Please tell your volunteers that they must not detatch the stub, since that becomes the purchaser’s entry in the drawing for door prizes.

- Do not allow your volunteers to mail passes to prospective buyers unless they have received the $5 for each shopping pass.

Can organizations sell the shopping passes in their local Boscov’s store?

Boscov’s offers participating organizations several opportunities to sell shopping passes in our stores, both prior to and on the day of the event.

We encourage organizations to sell advance shopping passes at Boscov’s.  We’re happy to offer your organization the opportunity to staff a table a Boscov’s entrance(s) prior to the event to sell Friends Helping Friends shopping passes.  We’ll supply the table, chairs and signage; you supply the manpower.  Choice of days and shifts will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.  If you wish to schedule your organization for a sales shift, please indicate that on your registration form and list your first three choices of dates and times.  We will contact you to confirm your times.  All organizations are invited to pre-sell up to two times prior to Friends Helping Friends day, based on availability.

We anticipate that each store will need volunteers from all participating organizations to help us on Friends Day.  Volunteers have the opportunity to sell Friends Helping Friends shopping passes to customers who have not yet purchased a pass.  If you would like to supply volunteers from your organization to help in the store where your organization is a registered participant, on Tuesday, October 16, please complete the Volunteer Registration Form in your registration packet.  Volunteers will work a pre-assigned shift and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  We will notify you in advance of Friends Day to confirm which of your volunteers have been assigned, and to which shift.
