Kids Shoe Sizing

Position the right (and left) foot on the length ruler, ensuring their heel aligns with the curved line. Confirm that their heel touches the wall. Using a pencil, mark the first visible line beyond their big toe. Now, compare to the below to find their size. Make sure to measure both feet and go with the longer foot measurement if applicable.

Tips on Best Fit!

  • Avoid measuring in the morning, as feet tend to swell throughout the day. For the most accurate fit, try on new shoes after kids have been active for a few hours.
  • Steer clear of purchasing shoes that are excessively large. Oversized shoes can negatively impact proper foot development. While kids' feet grow rapidly, opting for the wrong size shoe just for a few extra months of wear isn't worth the potential risks.
  • Similarly, avoid buying shoes that are too small. The only exception to purchasing true-to-size shoes is when your child's feet differ in size or fall between sizes. In such cases, always opt for the larger size to prevent discomfort and avoid squeezing their feet.
  • Go beyond simply standing and walking. To accurately assess a shoe's fit, observe your child in motion. Encourage them to jump, dance, and jog around while trying on shoes so you can evaluate their movement and comfort.

Are your Kiddos Shoes Too Small?

  • Their shoes cause blisters or apply excessive pressure to the skin.
  • Their toes are cramped against the front of the shoe. There should always be sufficient space in the toe box to press the tip of your thumb down without contacting a toe.
  • Your child appears less active. If they show reluctance to play outside, it might indicate discomfort caused by shoes they've outgrown. They express discomfort in their feet. Older children will communicate if their shoes are uncomfortable.
  • Complaints of knee, hip, back, or joint pain could also signal poorly fitting shoes.

Are your Kiddos Shoes Too Big?

  • Their heel slips out of the shoe while walking.
  • They frequently trip or twist their ankles.
  • Their walk is altered.
  • They tend to drag their feet.
  • They develop blisters. Indeed, blisters can occur when shoes are too large as well!
